Mitigation of CO2 emissions from international shipping through national allocation

چکیده

Abstract Neither international treaties nor domestic policies control carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions from shipping. To enhance mitigation, a new multilateral mechanism could allocate these to national budgets, where different options be used based on the location of industry actors and ships. We analyze five allocation options, showing that clear majority CO would distributed ten countries under each option; however, top vary across amount allotted individual increase their budgets thousand-fold or more. further examine how objectives, principles for decision-making, geographical coverage United Nations Framework Convention Climate Change (UNFCCC) International Maritime Organization influence design implementation an two bodies. find best meets criteria related effectiveness equity one in which are assigned ship owners, operates UNFCCC.

GHG emissions from international shipping and aviation

International shipping accounts for about 2 percent of annual global CO2 emissions. Aviation annually contributes to approximately 3.5 percent of the total human climate change effects, taking into account that several emissions from planes contribute. The emissions occur outside national control, and need broad international cooperation to be curbed. Voluntary agreements and technical standard...

Virtual Arrival as a Tool to Reduce Carbon Emissions from International Shipping

Policy summary International shipping of goods is an increasing source of carbon emissions, especially as production of goods for the developed nations is being off-shored to developing nations such as China. Some of these emissions are related to the problem of ships arriving at port before docking and unloading facilities are available, resulting in unnecessary costs, energy consumption and c...

The challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping: assessing the international maritime organization's regulatory response

As a comparatively cost effective, clean, and safe method of transportation, international shipping offers an important means of moving goods internationally and enables other activities such as leisure cruising.1 Many factors contribute to the development of international shipping. As an example, the evolution of ship propulsion has progressed from sailing ships to steam ships powered by coal ...

International shipping of fumonisins from maize extracts on C18 sorbent.

Fumonisins are mycotoxins found in maize. In developing countries, the resources required for analysis are often lacking, and the shipping of maize between countries can be difficult since the importation of plant materials requires permits/inspection to prevent the entry of pests that frequently infest maize. A simple, safe and legal method for shipping maize extracts to the USA was needed to ...

Mitigation of methane emissions from constructed farm wetlands.

Constructed wetlands are increasingly used for water pollution treatment but may also be sources of the greenhouse gas CH(4). The effect of addition of two potential inhibitors of methanogenesis - iron ochre and gypsum - on net CH(4) emissions was investigated in a constructed wetland treating farm runoff in Scotland, UK. CH(4) fluxes from three 15-m(2) wetland plots were measured between Janua...
